Tourist-orientated townships are located at highly scenic coastal and hinterland locations and include the townships of Haliday Bay, Eungella, Grasstree Beach, Campwin Beach and Armstrong Beach.
There are about 40 different nationalities represented in the region. The region also boasts the largest Australian South Sea Islander population. The Mackay Regional Local Government Area (map) is one of the fastest growing in Queensland, with a population of over 117,000 people. The region’s prosperous economy is expected to continue to drive strong population growth over the next 20 years.
